Nioh 3 gameplay showcase reveals Combat, Yokai and the Crucible mode ahead of February launch
Nioh 3 received a detailed gameplay showcase highlighting samurai and ninja combat, new yokai, the Crucible mode, demo plans, and its February 6 release date.
Developer Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo have released a new gameplay showcase for Nioh 3. Set to release on February 6, the latest hands-on look at Nioh 3 goes a bit more in-depth on what players can expect from the sequel’s combat systems and enemy variety.
The 17-minute gameplay showcase puts an emphasis on gameplay this time around, detailing combat systems and enemies players will face in Nioh 3.
As well as going into detail on the traditional mechanics you’ll be familiar with if you’ve played the previous entries in the series, the showcase also goes over a brand new gameplay loop dubbed the Crucible.
Combat Systems and Playstyle Variety
Team Ninja dives deep into both samurai and ninja-style gameplay, showcasing different strategies you can employ when dealing with all sorts of enemy types. Swordplay remains as intuitive as ever, seamlessly transitioning between light and heavy attacks, defensive rolls, and Skill Art techniques.
Enemy design also seems to be given a bit of a boost. Yokai are fast, deadly, and actually seem to have different patterns and playstyles you will need to identify and adapt to when combating them.
The Crucible Explained
When looking at everything shown off during Nioh 3’s gameplay showcase, one of the biggest additions viewers learned about was the Crucible. From what’s been explained, this feature is some sort of challenge-based mode for players to test themselves.
Details on how this works are still vague, but players are shown getting matched up into encounters with rankings on leaderboards that get tougher the higher you climb.
Enemies also grow in strength the longer you survive in each fight. It doesn’t take too much to realize players are being challenged to play skillfully and knowledgeably when it comes to combat here.
Judging by how this mode is explained, The Crucible seems like it will be for players who want a bit of an adrenaline rush and something to do past the campaign.
Demo Availability and Progress Carryover
Koei Tecmo also assured players that there will be a demo for players to get a jump start on Nioh 3 starting January 29. What’s more, your save data will transfer over to your copy of the full game when it launches so you can continue right where you left off.
This means players can try out the combat and get familiar with game’s mechanics without any risk.
Release Date and Platforms
Nioh 3 will launch on February 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam). So far there have been no other editions detailed nor any plans for post-launch content.
