It has been reported that Tencent's TiMi Studio Group is closing its Montreal-based research and development studio.
According to a report by the 21st Century Business Herald, Tencent's TiMi Studio Group’s Montreal studio has recently ceased operations, with multiple former employees confirming the news on social media platforms.
It is reported that the TiMi Montreal studio was established in 2021, led by Ashraf Ismail, former creative director of the Assassin's Creed series, as TiMi's third North American R&D base in addition to its Los Angeles and Seattle studios in the United States.
At its inception, Tencent (00700.HK) internally positioned the Montreal studio to focus on developing large-scale gaming products with AAA quality, open-world architecture, and cross-platform capabilities. However, no final product was released. Over time, its focus gradually shifted towards extending the internationalization of TiMi IPs, including participating in the development and localization of titles such as Pokémon UNITE and Call of Duty: Mobile.
